Delaware County Sheriff John LeClere Retiring
Forty Year Career Ending December 31st

Delaware County’s longtime sheriff is retiring.
Today is the last day on the job for Sheriff John LeClere. Born and raised in Delaware County, LeClere has served the area for just over forty years.
LeClere says a lot has changed in law enforcement over those four decades.
Sheriff LeClere says there have been many good moments and memories throughout his career, but it’s the tragedies that have impacted our community that will stay with him the most.
LeClere, who became Sheriff in 2000, decided not to run for re-election this past November and instead retire at the end of the year – he’s hoping to catch up on some hobbies and pursue part-time work opportunities. But he says it will be difficult to step away after so many years in law enforcement.
Sheriff LeClere says his career has been very rewarding – and he thanks the community for their support.
Travis Hemesath will fill LeClere’s role as the new Delaware County Sheriff.
