Eight Beckman Catholic Students Named Finalists in Iowa State Bar Association Competition

Several Beckman Catholic students are finalists in the Iowa State Bar Association Competition.

Anna Sperfslage, Madelyn Reiter, Ana Cortes, Anna Knepper, Eva Rahe, Luke Wessels, Marie Grebner, and Alexie Hogan are finalists in The Iowa State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division “Know Your Constitution” Project.

The “Know Your Constitution” Project is designed to enrich students’ understanding and appreciation of the Constitution. The students participating in the project were required to familiarize themselves with Constitution-related issues. Each participating student completed a quiz, and an essay question accompanied the quiz. This year’s essay topic involved Constitutional questions concerning the right to a person’s DNA and subsequent general DNA database search. The question is modeled after the recent Iowa State Supreme Court Case State v. Burns.

Sixty-five finalists were selected from the more than 500 students across Iowa who participated in the “Know Your Constitution” Project. These finalists will be honored at an Awards Luncheon in Des Moines on January 24th.

From the finalists, five students and their teachers will be randomly chosen to receive scholarship grants and honoraria in recognition of their efforts.

“Best Essay” finalists will be posted to the ISBA website at iowabar.org, with an overall winner announced during the Awards program.
