Becker Transitioning from CEO Role at Camp Courageous

Camp Courageous in Monticello will be seeing a transition in leadership over the next year.

After more than forty-five years as CEO of both Camp Courageous and the Camp Courageous Foundation, Director Charlie Becker announced Wednesday that he will be stepping down as CEO.

Becker will transition to more of an outreach position that will allow him to give one hundred percent of his focus on the Camp Courageous Foundation. 

The Camp Courageous Board will be hiring a new CEO to lead the day-to-day operations of Camp Courageous. The Board has partnered with Manchester resident and succession consultant, Sarah Hermanson with One Above HR, to assist them through this process. 

Hermanson has a personal history with Camp Courageous – she knows firsthand that it’s a special place.

Hermanson says Becker will leave big shoes to fill, with the search for a new Camp Courageous CEO going nationwide.

Becker began his role as CEO in 1980 when Camp Courageous was struggling to survive. Since that time, the Camp has grown from five buildings to thirty-five, from 40 acres to 400, and most importantly, from a few hundred campers with special needs to nearly 10,000 campers. Becker is quick to give credit to the thousands of caring people who have helped build the Camp along the way – from the staff and volunteers, to the campers and their families, to the generations of supporters. He says it’s been a heartwarming run.
