Grass Fire Northwest of Manchester

Firefighters responded to a grass fire northwest of Manchester on Monday afternoon.

Manchester Fire Chief Randy Rattenborg says his department was called to 1822 Firefly Road around 1 pm for a trash fire that had gotten out of control due to the gusty winds. According to his report, the fire burned around three acres of CRP ground. Firefighters spent about a half hour at the scene.

Chief Rattenborg is reminding residents that with the lack of snow, conditions are very dry right now.

The Manchester Fire Department has responded to five grass fires so far this winter – Rattenborg says they normally don’t have any grass fires this time of year. He notes that other fire departments in the area have responded to grass fires as well.
