West Delaware Class of 1970 Starts Mountain Climber Award Scholarship

The West Delaware Class of 1970 is providing a new scholarship to West Delaware students.
It’s called the Mountain Climber Award and it will be available to students in all grades starting this year.
1970 grad Chris Mundy says she and several other classmates were hoping to find a way to make an impact on future generations while also building their class legacy.
The Mountain Climber Award recognizes students who have overcome difficulties to succeed in academics, improve their social-emotional well-being or demonstrate overall good citizenship. The award is focused not on students who necessarily achieved at high levels, but rather on students who have overcome difficult situations.
West Delaware High School Principal Tim Felderman says grit and determination are important in preparing students for the real world – so this new scholarship is the perfect opportunity to recognize those students who have already shown they are capable of that in their young lives.
The Class of 1970 has started an endowment fund with the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County, which will pay out annually, forever, to support the scholarship. Chris Tegeler says they are overwhelmed by their classmates’ response, with nearly $11,000 raised since November.
