Greater Delaware County Community Foundation Gives Grants to Non-Profits

The Greater Delaware County Community Foundation has awarded more than $40,000 in grants to local non-profits.
Chairman Jack Klaus says the foundation has been around for years, with two main goals of serving the community.
Klaus says the second goal of their foundation is to be a source for people.
This year’s grants were presented during a reception in Manchester last Thursday afternoon. The Foundation awarded nearly $2,000 in Harlo Coon Grants, with The Meadows Assisted Living receiving $1,000.
And more than a dozen non-profits were awarded McGee Barr Grants. Klaus says the West Delaware Elementary and Middle School Book Fair was one of the recipients, receiving $750.
Second Helpings, which is a free community meal offered every Monday night at Manchester Methodist Church, received $5,000. Klaus says that is truly a cause that needs funding.
And First Presbyterian Church received nearly $300 for their Birthday Bags project.
The grants not only provide funds needed to help make these projects happen, but draw awareness to their causes too. Klaus says many of us can take life for granted and not realize people in our own county need help.
The McGee Barr Grants will also help The Clothing Closet at Manchester Methodist Church, Community Childcare of Manchester, Delhi Thrift Store and Food Pantry, Helping Services for Youth and Families, Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa, Lutheran Services in Iowa, Operation Santa Claus, Riverview Center, Sleep in Heavenly Peace and West Delaware Back to School Fair, with the Delaware County Food Bank receiving both a McGee Barr Grant and Harlo Coon Grant.
The Greater Delaware County Community Foundation accepts applications for these grants from non-profit organizations in October of each year and hands out the funding the following January. The Foundation also awards scholarships to traditional and non-traditional students.
