More Snow Forecasted for Wednesday Afternoon into Evening

This information is current as of 11:20 am Wednesday, February 12th.
The winter storm has moved into eastern Iowa – and forecasters say the snow will continue through Wednesday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service says a Winter Storm Warning is still in effect until 3 am Thursday for Delaware, Dubuque, Buchanan, Linn, Jones and Clayton counties. An additional three to seven inches of snow is possible in those areas. A band of snow along a line from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque could bring heavier snow totaling over six inches.
A Winter Weather Advisory continues for Fayette County until 3 am Thursday, with total snow accumulations of three to five inches.
Forecasters say the snow will easily drift in gusty winds, especially in open areas. Travel impacts are expected through Wednesday night, with the greatest impacts during the evening commute. As of Wednesday morning, the Iowa DOT and Iowa State Patrol were reporting mostly snow-covered roads on the main highways south of a line from Cedar Rapids to Dubuque, with the main roads mostly partially-covered north of that line. Delaware COunty Emergency Management Coordinator Mandy Bieber says the winds are causing some shallow drifting. Because the snow is light and fluffy, it’s also getting blown around and creating some visibility problems. This will be noticeable for the evening commute. Bieber says they’re recommending people do not travel if they don’t have to. Towing is not recommended in Jones County. You can stay up to date with the latest road conditions at 511ia.org.
