Firefighters responded to a chimney fire in Dubuque County on Thursday morning.
According to a press release from the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to 21702 Ridge Road west of Balltown shortly after 8:30 am, along with fire departments from Sherrill, Holy Cross and Centralia/Peosta.
A chimney fire had spread into the nearby walls. Homeowners Michael and Kerry Reuter told emergency personnel they had just filled the fireplace with wood earlier that morning. The house then started to fill with smoke.
The Sheriff’s Office says firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, limiting the damage to approximately $50,000.
No injuries were reported.
