West Delaware Considers Options for 2025-26 School Calendar

The Iowa legislature is considering a bill that could push up the first day of school.
A proposed bill approved by the Senate Education Committee would allow schools across the state to start as early as the second to last Monday in August instead of waiting until August 23rd.
The West Delaware School Board discussed the potential school calendar for next school year at their meeting earlier this week, with the district presenting two proposals to the board. Superintendent Jen Vance:
The second proposal is to begin classes at West Delaware on August 25th and wrap up the school year on May 28th. Any changes with that legislative bill could result in a third option.
Vance says the decision on their 2025-26 school calendar will ultimately come down to what the Iowa legislature decides.
