Closing Arguments Wrap Up Mullis’ Post Conviction Relief Trial

Closing arguments took place in Todd Mullis’ Post Conviction Relief trial on Monday.
The Earlville man was convicted of First Degree Murder in 2019 in the death of his wife, Amy Mullis. She was fatally stabbed with a corn rake in her back on their farm in November 2018. Todd was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
His application for Post Conviction Relief started last Monday, February 24th in Delaware County District Court, with evidence presented and a number of witnesses called to the stand this past week.
Mullis is asking for a new trial. During closing arguments, Todd’s attorney, Tara Thompson, says there is “no doubt” that the 2019 trial was “unfair” – noting the medical evidence that shows this was an accident, electronic evidence that the iPad searches are not what they seemed and the “ambush” 911 call presented in the previous trial was not as the State described.
The State does not believe the evidence warrants a new trial.
According to court documents, both parties have an opportunity to submit written final briefs by April 8th. A written ruling will be issued by the Court as soon as possible after that date.
