High Winds, Blizzard-Like Conditions Possible Wednesday

Damaging winds will be moving through the state on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for portions of eastern Iowa, including Delaware, Dubuque, Buchanan, Linn and Jones counties. Northwest winds at 35 to 45 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 60 miles per hour.

And Meteorologist Jim Lee, at the National Weather Service, says with snow also falling on Wednesday, this will cause near whiteout conditions on the roads.

Wednesday’s damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Forecasters are watching another storm system develop later this week, which could bring more snow to Iowa Thursday night and into Friday.
