Hero Hustle Donates $10,000 to New Delaware County Drone Program

The Hero Hustle donated their proceeds from last summer’s event to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management on Wednesday.

For the past nine years on the last Sunday morning in August, the Hero Hustle Sprint Triathlon brings local athletes together at Schram Park in Manchester to compete in a 400-yard swim, 16-mile bike ride and 5K – with the goal to raise money for our local heroes, including Delaware County’s law enforcement, fire departments and EMS.

It’s a cause that has resonated with people across the community. Doug Foley is a member of the Hero Hustle committee.

This year’s recipients were the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management. On Wednesday, the Hero Hustle committee presented Emergency Management Coordinator Mandy Bieber and Sheriff Travis Hemesath with a check for $10,000. Bieber says they’ll be using those funds to implement a new drone program in Delaware County.

Bieber says they wouldn’t have been able to implement the drone program this quickly without the funds from Hero Hustle, so the donation and support is very much appreciated.

The Hero Hustle committee says they also donated $500 to the Earlville Fire Department for being the first county team that competed and crossed the finish line in last year’s event, as well as $500 to Caleb Payne, who competed as an individual representing Manchester Ambulance (and the first EMS/Fire/law enforcement personnel member to cross the finish line).

The Hero Hustle will be celebrating their 10th year when they hold this year’s event on Sunday, August 24th (moved up one week due to the Labor Day holiday weekend).
