Nearly Three Hundred Pigs Tagged at Delaware County Swine Weigh-in

Nearly three hundred head of swine were weighed in last Saturday in preparation for their showing at this summer’s Delaware County Fair.

ISU Extension & Outreach says the Delaware County Swine Weigh-In was held at the Delaware County Fairgrounds in Manchester. A total of 278 head of swine were tagged and identified for the fair’s Swine Show to be exhibited by eighty-two 4-H and FFA members, including 18 new exhibitors. That’s just slightly less than last year’s numbers, when 297 head were tagged by 82 exhibitors.

Exhibitors now have just over 100 days to prepare their finished swine projects before fair time.

The Delaware County Fair is scheduled for July 7th through the 13th with the Swine Show set for Friday, July 11th at 8 a.m. Exhibitors who identified swine at the weigh-in may enter their animals in the Breeding Gilt, Derby, or Market classes. And junior, intermediate, and senior showmanship competitions will be held too.

The Extension Office is reminding 4-H members who brought swine to the weigh-in to enter your swine weigh-in data in 4honline by May 15th. County Staff will verify and correct animal identification information after members have entered their swine data. So if you have questions or need any assistance with this process, reach out to the Delaware County Extension Office.
