City of Manchester Presents Annual Awards
Hauschild, Dog Park Committee, Sherman & Tyrrell Honored

The City of Manchester honored several community members with awards at their annual Boards and Commissions Open House on Wednesday night.
Mayor Connie Behnken presented former Manchester Police Chief Jim Hauschild with the City’s Distinguished Service Award. Hauschild retired last May after serving the community for thirty years and was surprised to receive the special honor.
The Manchester Dog Park Committee was presented with the City’s First Citizen Award. This group of residents has devoted their time to raising funds to creating a place where dog owners will soon be able to bring their beloved pets to run and enjoy social time. Kevin Geiss and Leah Goebel say on behalf of the committee, they appreciate the recognition.

Dean Sherman was presented with the Mayor Milt Leadership and Legacy Award. Along with his many years of service on the Manchester City Council, Sherman has served on Manchester Good to Great, the Manchester Park Board, Delaware County Economic Development Board, Manchester Vitality Endowment and Manchester Airport Committee, as well as serving as a NICC Trustee and NICC Foundation Board member. Sherman says serving the community is just about doing what you think is right.

And the late Dr. John Tyrrell was honored with the City of Manchester’s Pillar of the Community Award, with his children accepting on his behalf. Dr. Tyrrell, who passed away last November at the age of 100, led a life that exemplifies the very best of community service, leadership and human kindness. He had given back to his country, state and community in countless ways – serving in World War Two, providing decades of care as a doctor and volunteering with numerous committees and projects, which included pivotal roles in creating the Delaware County Rec Center, Greater Delaware County Community Foundation and the Freedom Is Not Free Veterans Memorial at Baum Park. In Mayor Behnken’s words, “his journey reminds us that true greatness lies not solely in individual achievement, but in the collective betterment of the community – and a legacy that will inspire us all for generations to come”.
