Dubuque County Collects Over 200 Pounds of Medications at Drug Take-Back Event

Several counties hosted Drug Take Back events on Saturday.

It’s part of an annual nationwide effort sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration to collect old and unused medications from local residents.

The Dubuque Task Force, in conjunction with police departments from Dyersville, Farley, Peosta and Asbury, collected such items as prescription medications, non-prescription medications, vitamins, herbals, supplements, syringes and other items.

Just over two hundred pounds of medications were collected at Saturday’s Dubuque County event, along with 175 pounds of sharps. All the items collected will be incinerated.

And a reminder to anyone who may have missed Saturday’s Drug Take-Back event – the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office has a Prescription Drop Box located in the front lobby of the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center. Drop boxes are also located at the Dyersville Police Department, Farley Police Department, Peosta Police Department and Asbury City Hall. Over 550 pounds of prescription medication and non-prescription medication have been collected over the past six months through those drop boxes.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office in Manchester also has a Prescription Drop Box outside their doors available 24/7.
