New Dog Park Opens in Manchester

The new Manchester Dog Park officially opened to the community on Thursday afternoon.

This project has been years in the making – and Manchester resident Jo Schreck has been there pushing it along from the beginning.

The new dog park is located on South Brewer Street near the compost site, with plans to relocate the disc golf course so that it will be nearby. There are two large fenced-in areas so small dogs and large dogs have their separate spaces. The rules are posted, with Schreck noting there are a couple things in particular that they’d like visitors to remember.

And you’ll notice two fire hydrants around the dog park, which serve a dual purpose.

Tails were wagging as a number of dogs checked out the new dog park on Thursday – running, playing catch and taking a break with a drink at the water coolers. Manchester residents Jay Reeder and his wife, Amy, brought their French bulldogs, Gus and Lola.

Leah Goebel was there with one of her four beloved pups to celebrate the dog park’s grand opening.

Goebel joined the committee a couple years ago because she believed it was something the Manchester community needed.

Supporters gathered to help celebrate the grand opening on Thursday with a ribbon cutting – or in this case, a ribbon “biting”, which involved the dogs who were on hand. After the crowd started to dwindle, Schreck took a moment to run and play in the grassy open area with one of the pups who came to visit – a Beagle named Lucy. You could see the joy in both of them.
