Manchester Council Split on Purchasing New Street Sweeper

The City of Manchester will be getting a new street sweeper this summer.
You may have seen the street sweeper come through town – every Friday from 4 am to noon from spring to fall, it sweeps a different quadrant of town. City Manager Tim Vick says it also cleans up the streets after storms and floods, plays a role during the city’s leaf pickup each fall and sweeps through town the week before holidays and special events, such as the Delaware County Fair.
The City of Manchester tries to budget around $300,000 each year for equipment replacement.
The City Council approved the purchase of the 2025 sweeper demo unit for just over $291,000 with trade-in, as a replacement for the City’s 2017 street sweeper. It was a split vote, with council members Linda Schmitt and Bryan Gray voting against it. Vick says their concerns were valid.
Manchester’s new sweeper will hit the streets in July.
