Motorcyclist Injured in Highway 20 Crash in Buchanan County

A motorcyclist was injured in a crash on Highway 20 in Buchanan County on Thursday afternoon.
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says they received several 911 reports of a motorcycle accident near the 256 mile marker east of Independence shortly before 1:30 pm. It was reported that a motorcycle had crashed and came to rest on the bridge deck over the Wapsipinicon River in the eastbound lanes of Highway 20.
Sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel responded to the scene. An investigation shows Christopher Keidel of Epworth was driving his motorcycle westbound on Highway 20 when he lost control. His motorcycle went through the median and into the eastbound lanes where it rolled over, ejecting Keidel and coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of the roadway.
Keidel, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.
He was later cited for failing to maintain control.
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa State Patrol, Independence Police Department, Independence Fire Department, AMR Ambulance and Buchanan County Emergency Management.
