Law Enforcement Looking for Violators of Move Over Law

Law enforcement across Iowa are taking part in a nationwide effort this week to promote the “Move Over, It’s the Law” program.
Trooper Paul Gardner, of the Iowa State Patrol, says it’s been the law in Iowa for more than 20 years, but it’s only recently been passed in all 50 states.
Law enforcement will be focusing on making sure motorists move over during a special operation that’s running this week Tuesday through Thursday.
Ignoring the law could bring a 200-dollar fine and suspension of the driver’s license for up to a year.
There have been numerous cases in Iowa and nationwide that resulted in traffic fatalities due to a driver not moving over. One group at increased risk is the towing industry. Hanifen Towing, operating in the greater Des Moines area for over 100 years, has been directly impacted by the consequences of a driver’s failure to move over – losing two employees on the job in 2011.
