Fire Breaks Out at Rural Linn County Outbuilding

Emergency personnel responded to a fire at an outbuilding in rural Linn County on Monday morning.
The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says their deputies, along with fire departments from Monroe, Palo, Hiawatha, Marion, Alburnett, Walker, Troy Mills, Center Point, Robins and Cedar Rapids, Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue and ambulance crews from Hiawatha and Center Point, were dispatched to 3627 Midway Road for a structure fire around 9 am.
When they arrived, they found a 40-by-60 foot outbuilding, containing hay, on fire. Multiple fire tanker units assisted to bring water to the scene.
The fire was contained to the outbuilding. No people or animals were injured.
The Sheriff’s Office says these types of fires take a lot of water to suppress the fire, so it will take some time to get the fire extinguished. They’re asking the public to stay away from the scene as tankers are arriving to dump water at a rapid pace.
