Iowa’s Corn and Soybean Condition Rated 59-Percent Good

The corn is doing pretty well across Iowa, with the recent rain and heat.
This week’s Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA on Monday says corn condition is rated 59-percent good, with 27-percent rated excellent. Corn silking has reached 62-percent – a day behind last year’s pace – with 18-percent of Iowa’s corn reaching the dough stage.
Soybean condition is also rated 59-percent good, with 21-percent excellent. Sixty-nine percent of soybeans have bloomed, with 37-percent of soybeans setting pods.
Eighty-three percent of oats are turning color and 35-percent of oats have been harvested for grain. Oat condition is rated mostly good at 68-percent.
And the second cutting of alfalfa hay is 79-percent complete, while 17-percent of the third cutting has wrapped up. Hay condition is rated 86-percent good to excellent.
Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says the monthly statewide average rainfall is above normal – and we’ve still got more than a week to go. Naig says while overall crop progress has benefited from the wetter conditions and somewhat milder temperatures, attention is now turning to the heat dome that is building over the state, which will bring hot temperatures and humidity this week.
