Rider Struck by Motorcyclist on RAGBRAI in Delaware County

A RAGBRAI rider was injured after being struck by a motorcycle while the ride passed through Delaware County on Saturday.

The accident happened north of Manchester on 150th Street on Saturday morning shortly after 9:30 am. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office says 59-year old Joseph Buehner of Manchester had turned onto 150th Street from 180th Avenue when he accelerated up a hill, encountering a full roadway of RAGBRAI bicycle riders – that caused him to move his motorcycle into the opposite travel lane. Witnesses reported he was yelling and screaming at the bicycle traffic before hitting a RAGBRAI rider from behind.

The RAGBRAI rider, 37-year old Carla Sanchez-Melgar of Irving, Texas, suffered minor injuries.

The accident report says Buehner also suffered minor injuries in the collision. Buehner told authorities that after the collision, he was confronted by a bicyclist and shoved.
