Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report

The condition of Iowa’s corn and soybean crop remains about the same as last week.

Fifty-seven percent of the corn is in good condition, with twenty-eight percent in excellent shape. Fifty-nine percent of soybeans are rated as good.

According to this week’s Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA, corn silking has reached 92-percent, with 53-percent of Iowa’s corn reaching the dough stage and nine-percent reaching the dent stage. Soybeans blooming has reached 89-percent, with sixty-five percent of beans setting pods.

Almost all of Iowa’s oats were turning color and 64 percent of oats for grain have been harvested. The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 93-percent complete, while 39-percent of the third cutting has been completed. Hay condition is rated 84-percent good to excellent.

There were scattered reports of crops damaged or down due to last week’s derecho and storms, with some crops in low lying areas reportedly impacted by overly wet conditions.

Ag Secretary Mike Naig says with the Canadian wildfire smoke clearing out, Iowans will be greeted with seasonal temperatures for the first several days of the world-famous Iowa State Fair.
