KMCH SPORTS: Fall Sports Practices Underway

BY JON SWISHER – SPORTS DIRECTOR:

The Fall Sports season began with practices around the state for High School Football, Volleyball and Cross Country yesterday.

West Delaware Football 2nd-year head coach Ryan King talks about the off-season for his squad:

The Hawks were 5-4 last season with their 4 losses by just 23 points combined. The program graduated 21 seniors who carried a good majority of the numbers last Fall but coach King says several of the seniors now gained valuable experience that will only help going forward:

Hawks Volleyball Head Coach Brett Mather beginning his 30th season at the helm of the varsity team at WD:

The Hawks are coming off of a 39-7 Class 3A state semifinal finish last season.  Despite losing 8 seniors to graduation, coach Mather knows they have good group coming back to lead the way:

WD Football will open up on Brown Field against Marion in week one on the 29th after scrimmaging Western Dubuque in week zero. Hawks Volleyball begins its journey at the Independence Invite on the 30th.

Our first official broadcast of the new season with Sports Director Jon Swisher will be next Friday night with the annual West Delaware Fall Sports Preview Show at the Silver Bowl on Brown Field.
