Iowa Crop Progress & Condition Report

Nearly all of Iowa’s corn has reached the silking stage.

This week’s Iowa Crop Progress and Condition Report released by the USDA on Monday says corn in the dough stage has reached 78-percent – one day behind last year’s pace and three days behind normal. Corn in the dent stage reached 27-percent.

The condition of Iowa’s corn is 56-percent good and 30-percent excellent. Soybean condition is 60-percent good and 22-percent excellent. Soybeans blooming has reached 96-percent. Eighty-three percent of beans are setting pods – one day ahead of last year’s pace, but four days behind normal.

Ninety-one percent of oats have been harvested, with the third cutting of alfalfa hay now 65-percent complete. Frequent rains have kept pastures growing and extended grazing periods.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says the outlook through the end of August suggests cooler temperatures and more seasonal rainfall potential.
