Three Injured in Highway 38 Collision in Delaware County

Authorities say three people were injured in an accident in Delaware County earlier this month.

According to an accident report released by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, two vehicles collided on Highway 38 North on Friday night, August 8th around 10:15 pm.

The report says a car driven by 20-year old Sunsha Pierre of Cedar Rapids pulled onto Highway 38 from a T-intersection and inadvertently entered the wrong lane of traffic. Pierre’s car encountered a SUV driven by 32-year old Sara Parsons of Hopkinton and both attempted to avoid the other, with both vehicles swerving in the same direction and hitting each other head on.

Pierre suffered minor injuries and was transported to Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa.

Parsons was not injured, but two passengers in her SUV were hurt. The Sheriff’s Office says 28-year old Ariel Merfeld of Hopkinton suffered what was believed to be serious injuries and 43-year old Amy Wilson of Hopkinton suffered minor injuries. Both Merfeld and Wilson were transported to Regional Medical Center.

Pierre was cited with Operating on the Wrong Side of the Roadway. She told authorities she was unfamiliar with the road.
