Candidates Can File for November’s City & School Elections

City and school elections are coming up in November – and anyone wanting to run for office can begin filing their papers.

The Delaware County Auditor’s Office says the deadline for filing is Thursday, September 18th.

A candidate must be an eligible elector in the school district, director district (if any) or the City and City ward (if applicable) at the time they file nomination papers and at the time of the election.

Those interested in running for school board or community college trustee, nomination petitions and affidavits of candidacy are available at the Auditor’s Office, the School Board Secretary’s Office or the Community College Main Office. Those candidates must file their nomination papers with the School Board Secretary or Community College Board Secretary, depending on which seat they are running for.

Those interested in running for City Council or Mayor, nomination petitions and affidavits of candidacy are available at the Delaware County Auditor’s Office and from the City Clerk. All City candidates must file nomination papers with the Auditor’s Office.

The nomination paper filings must include nomination petitions and affidavit of candidacy. The number of signatures required on the nomination petitions for a particular office is available from the City Clerk, School Board Secretary or County Auditor’s Office.

Further information regarding city/school elections, candidates and deadlines is available online – check the “Upcoming & Recent Elections” section of the Delaware County Elections webpage under City/School Election at delawarecountyelections.iowa.gov.

The City and School Elections will take place Tuesday, November 4th.
