Fire Damages Rural Alburnett Home

A rural Linn County home was damaged in a fire on Thursday afternoon.

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to 4353 Flemingville Road northwest of Alburnett around 1 pm. The homeowners’ daughter arrived home from school to black smoke and called 911.

When firefighters and emergency personnel arrived, they saw heavy black smoke coming from the basement. The homeowner arrived on scene a short time later, telling firefighters that there were two dogs still in the house.

The dogs were rescued and taken to a local veterinarian office to be treated for smoke inhalation.

There was significant damage to the interior of the home.

The Sheriff’s Office says the fire is believed to have started due to an electrical issue with a dehumidifier in the basement.

The fire remains under investigation.
