Delaware & Dubuque Chapter of WLL Hosting “Women and Water” Event

The Delaware and Dubuque Chapter of Women, Land & Legacy is hosting an event called “Women and Water” — scheduled for Sunday, September 14th from 1 to 4 pm at The Train Depot of the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque.
This free community event invites attendees to spend an afternoon immersed in inspiration, learning, and connection — all centered on the vital relationship of humans and water.
Water is a powerful connector — linking people, places, and futures. As the Mississippi River Basin nourishes millions, it also reflects the stories of those who protect it. Women and Water will highlight the essential contributions of local women leaders, educators, and conservationists working to improve water quality and environmental resilience in our region.
The event will feature two dynamic speakers: Dr. Brandi Janssen, Clinical Associate Professor of Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Iowa, presenting “Upstream Thinking,” addressing how water intersects with individual, public, & community health, & with cultural values; and Judith E. Joyce, Senior Geomorphologist with Eocene Environmental Group, presenting “Field of Dreams Watershed – Connecting Communities to Water: Rejuvenating Ecosystems & Enhancing Livelihoods,” highlighting how collaborative watershed efforts are restoring ecosystems and strengthening rural communities.
As part of the afternoon, guests will also enjoy a guided wetland tour led by the museum’s Conservation Programs Manager. The tour offers a close-up look at Iowa’s wetland biodiversity and the vital role these ecosystems play in maintaining clean, resilient water systems.
To complement the experience, light refreshments will be served, creating space for conversation, reflection, and community-building.
This event is free and open to all, and especially welcomes women who are curious about conservation, passionate about the environment, or eager to connect with others who care about protecting our natural resources.
