September 18th Deadline to File to Run for City & School Elections

City and school elections are coming up in November – and just a reminder that the deadline to file to run for office is one week from today.

A candidate must be an eligible elector in the school district, director district (if any) or the City and City ward (if applicable) at the time they file nomination papers and at the time of the election.

If you are interested in running for school board or community college trustee, nomination petitions and affidavits of candidacy are available at the Auditor’s Office, the School Board Secretary’s Office or the Community College Main Office. Those candidates must file their nomination papers with the School Board Secretary or Community College Board Secretary, depending on which seat they are running for.

Those interested in running for City Council or Mayor can pick up nomination petitions and affidavits of candidacy at the Delaware County Auditor’s Office and from their City Clerk. All City candidates must file their nomination papers with the Auditor’s Office.

The nomination paper filings must include nomination petitions and affidavit of candidacy. The number of signatures required on the nomination petitions for a particular office is available from the City Clerk, School Board Secretary or County Auditor’s Office.

Further information regarding city/school elections, candidates and deadlines is available online – check the “Upcoming & Recent Elections” section of the Delaware County Elections webpage under City/School Election at delawarecountyelections.iowa.gov.

Candidates must file by next Thursday, September 18th. The City and School Elections will take place Tuesday, November 4th.
