KMCH SPORTS: Results from Tuesday 9/16

The Class 3A 5th-ranked Hawks were knocked off by #15 Mount Vernon last night 3-2 in a 5-set entertaining match that lasted one hour and 43 minutes. The tight back and forth contest featured 21 ties. The Hawks dropped to 14-4 on the season while the Mustangs improved to 7-6.
Elsewhere in coverage area Volleyball last night,
Independence was swept by Marion 3-0.
North Linn lost to Don Bosco 2-1.
Maquoketa Valley fell to Cascade 3-1.
Western Dubuque defeated Linn-Mar 3-1.
In Cross Country-
Starmont held their annual invitational. On the girls side, West Delaware finished 3rd with 92 points, 1st was Waukon with 40 in the big school division. Beckman Catholic placed 5th in the small schools with 133 points, 1st was Sumner-Fredericksburg with 33.
Individually. Starmont’s Lauren Krogmann won it with a 19:13.85, West Delaware’s Norah Peyton was 5th with a 20:53.63. The Hawks Brynn Kartmann placed 8th with a 21:21.44.
On the boys side, West Delaware was 7th with 164 points, first was Vinton-Shellsburg with 44. Beckman Catholic won the small school division with 27 points. For the Blazers, Danny Dudzik came in 9th with a 17:53.31. Jagger Timmerman of Starmont was 16th with a 18:19.94. Beckman Catholics Steffen Goerdt was 17th with a 18:22.18. West Delaware’s Nolan Hemann was 18th with a 18:23.14.
