KMCH SPORTS: WD Hawks Volleyball sweeps Indee/WD Girls Cross Country wins V-S meet

The Class 3A #12 West Delaware Volleyball team took down Independence at home last night inside Seedorff Gymnasium on Cancer Awareness night ’25. The Hawks won 25- 17,19 and 20 in a match that lasted one hour and one minute. WD improved to 20-4 while Indee dropped to 11-9,
In other coverage area play-
Maquoketa Valley topped Ed-Co 3-1.
Anamosa fell to Bellevue 3-2.
Beckman Catholic swept Monticello 3-0.
Western Dubuque lost at Iowa City West 3-0.
In Cross Country-
The West Delaware Girls took first place in the JV and Varsity races at Vinton-Shellsburg, the first time for both Hawk teams winning a race at the same meet since 2013. The varsity Hawks scored 53 points, 17 ahead of Alburnett, Cascade 4th with 94, Beckman Catholic 6th with 125. Individually, Hallie Kelchen of Cascade won it with a 20:20.5, WD’s Norah Peyton 2nd with a  21:13.6, Jeanne Bardgett 3rd with a 21:23.4 and Brynn Kartman 4th with a 21:35.6. Beckman Catholic’s Autumn Domeyer was 5th with a 22:26.4.
On the boys side, Vinton-Shellsburg finished 1st with 55 points, Beckman Catholic 3rd with 82, West Delaware 6th with 105. Nolan Hemann and Brendan White placed 5th and 6th for the Hawks with a 18:05.1 and a 18:10.8 respectively. The Blazers’ Danny Dudzik was 8th with a 18:11.3.
