A Truly Amazing Race to Benefit Ewalu Coming Next Weekend

It’s a unique race for a great cause. The Ewalu Bible Camp and Retreat Center is hosting its first ever Wild Driftless Adventure Race on October 4th. Frank Johnson is the executive director at Ewalu. He recently joined KMCH to explain what an adventure race is.

On the surface, it sounds like a triathlon, even an iron man triathlon. But Johnson said, it’s very different.

The adventure part comes with the race reveal.

The 9 hour race will entail approximately 5-13 miles of hiking, 20-34 miles of cycling, and approximately 2-8 miles of paddling in canoes or kayaks. A shorter race, lasting around 4 hours, lists 2-6 miles on foot and 10-15 miles on bike with no paddling. While the registration deadline is set for tomorrow, there is still an opportunity for those daring to sign up.

Johnson says already the race is drawing participants from the west coast and Canada. If you would like to volunteer, contact Ewalu at 563-933-4700.
