Delaware County Seventh Graders Learn Ag Safety

Progressive Agriculture Safety Day was held at the Delaware County Fairgrounds earlier this month.
ISU Extension and Outreach Delaware County partnered with area sponsors to provide educational safety lessons for 7th graders in the West Delaware, Maquoketa Valley and Ed-Co school districts.
Students rotated through six safety stations:
- PTO and Grain Safety was instructed by Lon Warnecke with River Valley Coop
- Lawn and Yard Equipment Safety was instructed by JJ Davis with the City of Manchester
- Christie Remley and Al Reiter with Maquoketa Valley Rural Electrical Coop presented on electrical safety
- Trooper Boyd Eser with the Iowa State Patrol discussed the importance of wearing a seatbelt and safety on the road
- The Delaware County Firefighters Association led the fire safety station
- ATV and UTV safety was instructed by Travis Hemesath and Luke Thomsen with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department
Over the years, thousands of 7th graders from Delaware County have learned valuable information as part of this annual event – which is made possible each year through the support of Delaware County’s commodity groups and many local businesses and partners. The Progressive Agriculture Safety Day program is the largest rural safety and health education program for children in North America.
