Former Olin Man Sentenced for Sexually Exploiting Children

A man who sexually exploited children has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison.
38-year old Christopher West, formerly from Olin, received the sentence last week after pleading guilty in April to one count of sexual exploitation of children and one count of distribution of child pornography.
At the plea hearing, West admitted that he sexually exploited four children and distributed child pornography. The record at the sentencing hearing showed that West sexually exploited four girls aged 6, 11, 15, and 17.
West was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids to 480 months in prison. He must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after the prison term, and he must comply with all sex offender registration and public notification requirements.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel and was investigated by several agencies, including the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, the Anamosa Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the FBI.
