High Voter Turnout in Manchester and Delaware County

Voter turnout was high in Manchester and Delaware County for Tuesday’s City/School Election.

The City of Manchester had three contested races this year, including the race for mayor. 

According to the Delaware County Auditor’s Office, nearly 39-percent of Manchester’s eligible voters participated in this year’s City/School Election. The contested City/School Election four years ago after Mayor Milt Kramer announced his retirement saw a voter turnout of nearly 31-percent, with the election two years ago at 28-percent. 

Delaware County’s overall voter turnout for this election was 20-percent. County Auditor Carla Becker says those are good numbers for a City/School Election. 

Becker says the average voter turnout for a City/School Election in Delaware County ranges anywhere from 5- to 25-percent, depending on the jurisdiction.

A total of 2,442 ballots were cast in Delaware County, with the majority of the county’s residents voting in-person at the polls on Election Day. Only around three hundred of those votes cast were absentee.

A Special Precinct Board will meet on Thursday afternoon to tally the write-in votes from all of Delaware County’s ballots. The Auditor’s Office says this is not a public process – the only observers are those designated by a candidate to be in attendance. 

Delaware County’s official TIER 1 canvass of votes from the City/School Election will take place next Wednesday, November 12th.
