Warm Up Coming after First Taste of Winter

Iowans who have been bundled up in their winter coats may be back in shorts and t-shirts by the weekend.

Meteorologist Brooke Hagenhoff, at the National Weather Service, says we’re in for a big warmup soon, but it follows a weekend during which most Iowans saw at least some snowfall, with accumulation in several areas.

Manchester saw a low of 20 degrees on Sunday, with a trace of snow over the weekend. But highs are expected to be back in the 50s by Wednesday, 60s by Friday and some areas across eastern Iowa could hit 70 on Saturday.

While it might not be warm enough this weekend to need the air conditioner, she says it’ll be a good bet you can turn off the furnace, at least temporarily.

We’re still more than a month from the start of winter, which officially arrives December 21st.
