Local Communities Honoring Veterans Day with Services & Events

Today is Veterans Day – and several communities have notified us of services and events they’re hosting today in honor of our veterans.

Manchester American Legion Post 45 will be conducting ceremonies at the schools, including West Delaware High School at 8:10 am, St. Mary’s School at 9:30 am and West Delaware Middle School at 10:15 am. After the school events, the Legion will host a ceremony at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester at 2 pm.

The Ed-Co National Honor Society is hosting a Veterans Day Service at 9 am at Ed-Co High School Varsity Gym in Edgewood. The Ed-Co Band and Choir will perform, with special guest speaker Kevin Atkinson addressing the crowd.

Ryan Legion Post 692 will hold a 21 Gun Salute at 4:30 pm at the Ryan Memorial. After the short ceremony, they’ll have a soup supper from 5 to 7 pm with soup, chips, ham sandwiches and desserts. Free will donation. For carryouts, call 319-202-7451.

In honor of our veterans, the Common Grounds Coffee Shop in Lamont is offering complimentary rolls and beverages to all patrons this morning from 6 to 10 am at 612 Bush Street in Lamont.

Along with our veterans, don’t forget to give your U.S. flag a little love. If it’s looking a little worn, Manchester Legion member Warren Coates says you can stop by the Legion to purchase a new one.
