One of Independence Fire Victims Dies from Injuries

One of the victims of this week’s fire in Independence has passed away.

The Independence Fire Department and surrounding agencies responded to an apartment fire shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning. Three people were taken to the hospital, with two of the three victims rescued from the building by emergency personnel.

The fire department says their name and further personal information will not be released out of respect for the family’s privacy.

“Our hearts are with the family during this difficult time,” said Fire Chief Blake Hayward. “Our crews gave everything they had on scene, and every agency involved worked together the way this community has always known for a long time. We strive to always be steady, committed, and focused on giving people the best chance possible. Losing a neighbor is never easy, and we stand with the family as they navigate the days ahead.”

The cause of Wednesday’s fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
