New Recycling Center Opens Today in Independence

A new recycling center opens today in Independence.

In partnership with Kluesner Sanitation, the City of Independence is opening a new, comprehensive recycling center for all Independence residents.

The new recycling center is available 24/7 at 2395 Jamestown Avenue, the site of the former Bower’s Discount facility.

This new center represents a major step forward in the City’s sustainability efforts. Most notably, the facility will now accept glass recycling, a service that has long been requested by residents. Accepted glass items must be placed in the designated dumpster. See image below for complete list of acceptable and non-acceptable items.

“This is a fantastic development for our community,” says City Manager Matthew R. Schmitz. “Our partnership with Kluesner Sanitation allows us to provide a more robust, single-location recycling solution while finally adding glass to our list of accepted materials. This new center will be more convenient for residents and will significantly increase our community’s ability to divert waste from the landfill”.

All Independence residents should use the new Jamestown Avenue facility for all recycling, including cardboard. The existing cardboard recycling drop-off bins located at the Old Pool Site and River’s Edge will be removed, effective today.
