Dyersville Preparing for Traffic Signal Project at Highway 52/12th Ave SE

Dyersville will be gaining another set of traffic signals along its busiest roadway through town.

The traffic signals will go up at the intersection of Highway 52 and 12th Avenue Southeast, where a new Kwik Star is anticipated to be built at the site of the former Dyersville Sales Barn.

Dyersville City Administrator Mick Michel says the project aims to enhance safety and accessibility at the busy intersection. The work will involve installing traffic signals, extending an ADA-compliant sidewalk to 13th Avenue Southeast, upgrading storm sewer systems, and adding curb and gutter work to help urbanize Highway 52 for part of the project. The project will also likely address long-standing access issues near Tauke Motors and will likely include driveway modifications, such as raised islands and shared access points, to enhance traffic flow and safety. Michel says the goal is to create a safer, more efficient intersection that boosts economic growth while maintaining good access for existing businesses.

The total investment in the area is about one-point-two million dollars, with the first phase estimated at $566,000.

The City held a public hearing on the traffic signal project on Monday night, with no comments from the general public. A bid letting is scheduled for December 4th, with construction expected to finish by June 30, 2026. Two-way traffic on Highway 52, 12th Avenue SE and 13th Avenue SE will remain open during the project.

This will be Dyersville’s 5th set of traffic signals and the City’s fourth set along Highway 52.
