Driver Dies after Hitting House in Independence

A driver has died after hitting a house in Independence on Sunday.

The Independence Fire Department says they were dispatched to the 500 block of 8th Avenue Northeast around 11:45 am for a vehicle that had struck a house. 

While en route, crews were advised that the driver was unresponsive and law enforcement on scene had begun CPR. Upon arriving, responders found the vehicle had left the road, struck a parked car and then collided with the house. 

Crews provided Advanced Life Support care and continued CPR until ambulance crews arrived. The patient was transported to the local hospital, where they died. Their name has not been released.

After assessing the house for structural and utility damage, crews requested Independence Light & Power and MidAmerican Energy due to compromised electrical and gas lines.

The Independence Fire Department says they worked in coordination with Independence Police, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch and Deputies, Jesup Ambulance, Independence Light & Power, MidAmerican Energy, and Lifeguard Air Ambulance.
