Manchester PD Hosting Cyber Safety Parent Event

How safe are your kids online?
The Manchester Police Department is hosting a Cyber Safety Parent Event tonight at West Delaware High School to discuss that topic.
The event comes just a week after the Manchester PD released information about Operation “Castle” – in which the department used an undercover officer to target predators online. The undercover officer portrayed a 15-year old boy and had created several profiles on several social media applications. Four men were charged and arrested, including one from New Vienna and another from Epworth. Police say each of the men arrested reached out and suggested sexual activity under their own accord, sent unsolicited nude photos, and suggested discreet meetings with the undercover officer. They were also found with other sexual evidence, including certain sexual medications, lubrication and condoms.
Manchester Police Chief Ben Davis says tonight’s Cyber Safety Event is the parents’ opportunity to have police teach their kids about what they feel is important regarding this issue. He says they want to hear questions and comments to tailor this to what the Manchester community wants.
Tonight’s Cyber Safety Parent Night hosted by Manchester Police and the West Delaware School District will begin at 5:30 pm at the West Delaware High School Auditorium.
Chief Davis says there will be plenty of time during and after for questions and comments.
