Old Lansing Bridge Implosion Scheduled Next Week

Ferry service has been going well at the site of the old Lansing Bridge – and the bridge’s implosion has been scheduled.

DOT engineer Clayton Burke says the ferry taking people across the Mississippi River after the old bridge was closed has been running most of the time.

The old bridge was closed so work can continue on the new bridge. Burke says weather is the only thing that has stopped the ferry.

On Tuesday, Burke gave an update to the Iowa Transportation Commission about the new bridge. He says with the piers in place, steel is going up.

They’ll take down the steel from the old bridge next week.

Burke says the ferry at the old Lansing Bridge site runs during holidays, but the hours are reduced to 12 hours a day instead of 16.
