Monticello Community School District Bus Rolls

A Monticello school bus taking students home yesterday carrying 25 students rolled on its side.  According to the Iowa State Patrol, the driver lost control, leading the bus to slide into a ditch on a gravel road. While no life-threatening injuries occurred to the students, the bus driver was taken to the hospital by EMS, and some students went to the hospital for evaluation via private vehicles.

In an email to the district, Monticello Superintendent Brian Jaeger writes: The bus was on a gravel road and the edge of the road was soft and the tires got too close to the edge of the road causing the bus to go into the ditch. The slope of the ditch caused the bus to tip onto its side.  Jaeger thanked the first responders from Monticello and surrounding communities, as well as the Iowa State Police, Jones County Sheriff’s Department, and the Monticello Police Department for their quick response to this situation. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the incident and assessing the road conditions.
