KMCH SPORTS: 16 coverage area girls qualify for state wrestling tournament

State Qualifying Girl’s Wrestling Regional Meets took place Friday around the state. Sixteen KMCH Sports coverage area wrestlers punched their ticket to the Girls State Wrestling Tournament coming up this Thursday and Friday at the Xtream Arena in Coralville.
In Class 1A-
West Delaware with 3:
At 135 Anna O’Rear, Berkley Lynch at 130 and Gracie Heim at 190.
East Buchanan with 3:
At 155 Miley Walz, Brooklyn Graham at 190 and Tayla Stiefel at 145.
Starmont with 1:
Cheyann Smith at 125
Cascade with 2:
Carly Manternach at 130 and Sophia Stephan at 170
Anamosa with 1:
Izzy Taylor at 170
Class 2A-
Western Dubuque with 4:
Ava Pfab at 170, Elli Casey at 100, Gracelyn McCarthy at 235 and Khloee Schmidt at 140.
Independence with 2:
Clair Priebe at 155 and Morgan Krall at 120.
Also on Friday night, West Delaware Boys Basketball program history was made by senior Keaton Emerson who connected on 8 three-pointers in the Hawks 82-47 win over Independence. The record for most 3’s in a game had been 7, held by 6 players – Shaun Klein, Brian Barnhart, Adam Palmer, Corey Larson, Kyle Wright and Griffin Lott. Emerson tallied 33 points on the night, a career high and the Hawks as a team hit fourteen 3-pointers. The WD boys will return to action tonight inside Seedorff Gymnasium as they entertain Solon. WaMaC in Marion-
Independence took the title with 215 points, West Delaware was 2nd with 209.5. The Hawks had 3 champions and 3 runner-up finishes.
Tri-Rivers in Clarence hosted by North Cedar-
Lisbon claimed the title with 238 points, North Linn 2nd with 156, Starmont was 3rd with 149, Maquoketa Valley 4th with 103, East Buchanan 7th with 65.
River Valley in Wilton-
Alburnett was first with 229 points, Anamosa 5th with 116, 8th was Monticello with 64.5, Beckman Catholic 11th with 51.5 and Cascade 13th with 44.
Mississippi Valley at Iowa City High-
First with 232.5 points was Linn-Mar, Western Dubuque was third with 189.
Today on this first Monday of the new month, State Qualifying Girls Bowling Meets around the state.
