Manchester City Council Meeting Recap

The Manchester City Council met Monday night, holding a public hearing on plans for the 2026 Anderson Street Project.
No one spoke for or against the project, with the Council reviewing the seven bids that came in for the project. Eastern Iowa Excavating was awarded the contract as the low bidder at one-point-one-four million dollars – about 300-thousand dollars lower than the engineer’s estimate. Mayor Connie Behnken and council member Mary Ann Poynor say much of the council’s discussion focused on whether to go with the concrete or asphalt option.
The Manchester Police Department was also on the agenda for a couple items, including a new K9, new department computers and a kudos for their recent work with arresting alleged online predators.
The new K9 will come at zero cost to Manchester taxpayers, thanks to the support of the community and the police department’s continuous fundraising and planning throughout the years.
The search for a new Manchester City Manager continues following the resignation of Tim Vick earlier this month. Six interviews are taking place today, with an opportunity for the public to meet the candidates later this month.
