Girls basketball regional finals took place in Class 1A and 2A last night around the state. Three coverage area teams had the chance of getting to the state tournament in Des Moines next week.
In Hampton-
#14 Maquoketa Valley fell in the Class 2A region 5 final to #5 Emmetsburg 64-43. A game that featured no ties and no lead changes and lasted one hour and four minutes saw the E-Hawks make 13 three-pointers. The Wildcats were denied of getting back to state for the 2nd year in a row and 8th time in program history. MV ended their campaign with a 19-5 mark and said goodbye to 5 seniors.
In Waverly-
The Class 1A Region 6 title had Ed-Co losing to #6 Dunkerton 67-44. The Vikings were looking for their 2nd state trip and first since 2002, they say goodbye to 3 seniors.
In Independence-
The Class 2A region 4 crown went to #4 Denver as they handled #13 Cascade 50-28. The Cougars denied of state appearance #12 and they will lose 3 seniors.
