Grassley: Iran, Trump and Legislative Priorities

President Donald Trump said on Monday that the war with Iran could last up to five weeks – or longer. Many Republicans, including U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, have hailed Trump’s move to strike Iran over the weekend and take out Iran’s Supreme Leader.

KMCH News Director Janelle Tucker had an opportunity to interview Senator Grassley during his weekly Capitol Hill Report with Iowa reporters on Monday – asking him to share his thoughts on the Iran strikes and whether he thinks Congress should have given their approval first.

A Congressional vote is expected mid-week. The strikes on Iran follow President Trump’s State of the Union address last week, where Trump outlined his America First agenda and his accomplishments during his first year of his second term. When asked about his thoughts on this past year, Grassley says there are at least two major accomplishments of Trump that stand out to him personally.

Grassley says there are currently three items he’s prioritizing when it comes to his work in the U.S. Senate.

Grassley, who will turn 93 later this year, is currently serving as President Pro-Tempore of the Senate – third in line to succeed the president.
