Clocks Spring Forward, Check Smoke Detectors

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday – and the American Red Cross is encouraging everyone to test their smoke alarms as they turn their clocks forward on Saturday night.

The Manchester Fire Department backs that advice. Chief Randy Rattenborg says it’s important to change the batteries in your smoke detectors – and your carbon monoxide detectors too. Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors have are good for about ten years, so checking to make sure they’re not outdated is smart to do while you’re changing the batteries.

Help is available for residents who are not able to reach their smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to check their expiration or change their batteries. The City of Manchester says residents can call 927-1119 and leave their name, address, phone number and a brief message.
